  1. I think one reason posts with titles that “limit” things to a specific number – 7 reasons, 5 tips, etc – succeed so well is precisely because of the problem of information overload. It promises a “quick fix” in easily manageable information.

  3. @Marya – Great point. Anytime you can provide lots of value in a relatively short space, you’ve got a winner.

    @Ben – Thank you. I checked in on them about a month or two ago and they seemed to be kicking up their advertising again. They might be the real deal — I assume they really do use Scott’s SSN — but I still don’t like a few things about the company.

    For instance: the criminal history of one of the founders, how they actually provide the LifeLock service (by putting security alerts on all your accounts), etc.
